P/P Photoweek: Red Maple, developing samara (IV.25.2005)

red maple

Red Maple, developing samara . . .
(a cultivar of Acer rubrum) Notice the still very
tiny 'wings' of the key of samara (New Latin for a one-seeded winged fruit) still
reveal their connection to the twin v-shaped stigmas of the female flowers.
