Smooth Sumac leaflets. . . (Rhus glabra). Native to North America. Compound pinnate leaf
viewed from below. Notice how the structure of the venation echoes that of the leaf as a whole.
Rhythm, rhythm, rhythm; it's everywhere in the natural world. Who would not want
a child to learn to dance this leaf, to sing its song in a little rhyming poem?
