european mountain ash

European Mountain Ash. . . (Sorbus aucuparia)  This is the species which grows natively to about
1,700 meters in the Alps, just about up to treeline. In North America, the European Mountain Ash
is planted in the lowlands as an ornimental, where its habit of growth is much taller and
treelike. Easily confused with the native species, the American Mountain Ash (Sorbus americana),
which has less red and more orange clusters of berries when ripe.
